VANCOUVER IS AWESOME – Betty found more than a new home at Terraces on Seventh

etty M. remembers the moment Terraces on Seventh began to feel like home.

“I think it was when I walked into the dining room for the first time and one of the waitresses said to me, ‘Happy birthday, Betty!’” she recalls. “I couldn’t believe it!”

It was a small gesture but an unforgettable one. Betty had only just arrived, yet someone already knew her name and had taken the time to make her feel special. “I felt at home almost immediately,” she says.

Living on her terms

Betty moved to Terraces a year ago after living independently in a condo in Steveston. She was ready to move to Vancouver to be closer to her adult children but she wanted a place where she could keep living life on her own terms.

Like many people who discover Terraces, Betty first heard about the community through word of mouth. A friend at church recommended it, so Betty and her children arranged a tour. It was the first of four retirement communities they visited. Although they looked at others, there was really no comparison. “Terraces made an impression,” Betty says. “The others didn’t.”

A year later, the people remain the most important part of her life there. “The people at Terraces are so lovely,” she says. “Everybody is so lovely and friendly, residents and team members alike.”
