Family Update – August 7th, 2020
Dear Friends and Family Members,
August is upon us, and we want to thank you for all of your patience and cooperation throughout July as we rolled out some changes to our practices. The re-opening of the dining room has gone well so far, and our social visitation program is up and running! We are still in the process of bringing hairdressers and foot care back into the salon, though we do not have definite dates for the return of these services. Your support during this time is greatly appreciated, and we will continue to ask for your cooperation and support moving forward.
We are currently allowing visitors into the building in two separate categories: essential visitors, and social visitors. The essential visitor program has not changed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. All essential visitors muse be confirmed and approved by our General Manager, Lara Novakovic. All requests must go to Lara by email (lnovakovic@wcshm.com) and you will be informed whether or not you have been approved. Please submit essential visitor requests by 4:00pm on Fridays if you need to visit over the weekend. Your request needs to detail: the name of the proposed essential visitor, the name and suite number of the resident you need to visit, what essential service will be provided, and the day and time of the proposed visit.
The social visit program has a different process, but the most important part is that you cannot book a visit unless you are the designated visitor for a given resident. The Designated Visitor Form is available upon request, and must be completed and submitted for approval. The designated visitor cannot be changed for the time being, until the government reviews their policies sometime this month. Please continue to book social visits (if you are a designated visitor) by phoning the Front Desk at 604-738-8380.
Vancouver Coastal Health is offering family education sessions weekly in August, and the topic this month is “Visits with your loved one.” The education takes place weekly, on Thursdays at 2:30pm. If you are interested in attending an education session, please see the attached information on how to access it via Zoom.
We want to take this opportunity to review the policy on resident isolation, and since it is for everybody’s safety it is important to be clear. There are four reasons that a resident may be placed on 14-day isolation:
- New admission – when a new resident moves in to Terraces, they must isolate for 14 days
- Resident is symptomatic – we monitor residents daily for COVID-19 symptoms, and if someone is symptomatic they will be placed on isolation for 14 days
- Discharge from hospital – if a resident has been admitted to hospital, they will isolate for 14 days upon their return to Terraces
- Return from social leave – when residents return from any overnight absence from Terraces we will ask them to isolate for 14 days, no matter how long they were away for (weekend trips, vacations etc.)
If you have questions about the 14-day isolation policy, please email Lara Novakovic at lnovakovic@wcshm.com. Thank you again for all of your support, it is greatly appreciated!
With gratitude,
Terraces on 7th Management Team
