Family Update – August 28th, 2020
Dear Friends and Family Members,
As the end of August approaches, we want to express just how grateful our entire team is for the support, cooperation, and understanding that you have shown us this summer. With cases of COVID-19 on the rise in BC, we are even more proud to say that we remain free of the virus at Terraces. Please continue to keep yourselves and your family safe as well by following the guidelines set out by Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix. As Dr. Henry said this week, “we need to learn that this virus is going to be with us, and we need to continue to be on our guard.”
Practicing proper and hygiene and physical distancing are still the best defense we have against COVID-19. Please be sure to practice hand hygiene regularly, and maintain physical distancing with those who are not in your personal social bubble. We continue to remind our residents to be self-aware and cautious when they go out into the community, and would like to extend that reminder to all of you as well (especially if you visit Terraces as an essential visitor, or a designated social visitor).
Vancouver Coastal Health is visiting Terraces this week to perform a Recovery Audit on our COVID-19 practices and protocols. Once we have the results of the audit, you will be updated on any pertinent information. Additionally, we do regular Infection Prevention & Control and Hand Hygiene audits throughout the building. This helps make sure that our protocols are being followed, and reveals areas where we may need to provide additional education for our staff and residents.
In the coming weeks, there will be some additions and adjustments to our recreation programming. While we wait for the details and protocols, the recreation programs have been running smoothly and we will continue to operate under our current restrictions until we are directed to make those changes. We are still working on safely bringing hairdressers and foot care services back to Terraces, and will inform everybody of specifics once they are set. As usual, we want to remind you that the Vancouver Coastal Health policy on 14-day isolation for residents returning from an overnight absence has not changed. Please keep this in mind as you plan out the remainder of your summer.
It is time again to remind everyone about our drop-off process if you have deliveries for your loved ones. Please continue to leave deliveries for your family member on the designated delivery table in the entrance vestibule of the building. Be sure to label the items with your loved one’s name and suite number, and make sure the Front Desk knows that you have left the items there. Staff will sanitize all bags/items before they come past the front doors, and then will either deliver the items directly to the residents or phone them to let them know they have a delivery. Thank you again for your cooperation!
With only a few weeks left in the summer, we wanted to remind everyone that we do have a Social Visitor program operating at Terraces. As the weather gets cooler, you may wish to start visiting with your family member inside, and we can help with that! The government still only allows one designated visitor per resident, but those visitors can book their visitation time slot through the Front Desk at 604-738-8386.
Thank you again for your support and cooperation, and we hope you have a safe and restful weekend.
With gratitude,
Terraces on 7th Management Team
